Extended Schools Services

Rutland Extended ServicesAn extended school is one that provides a range of activities and services often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community.

All Rutland Schools offer access to:

Childcare

For Primary age children from 8am to 6pm, five days a week, 48 weeks a year, in line with the community’s need. For older children and young people a ‘safe place to be’ according to their needs.

Community access

Where a school has facilities that are suitable for use by the wider community, for example sports fields, ICT equipment and arts facilities.
The school should endeavour to make these available to meet the needs of the wider community.

A varied menu of activities

Providing activities that children and young people want to take part in and experience. These may include homework clubs, dance, drama, arts and crafts, sports clubs and others like music tuition or modern foreign languages…There must be so many more…??

Parenting support

Information sessions for Dads and Mums when your child first starts at Primary school and again at transition to Secondary school. Access to national and local sources of information, advice and support. Signposting to parenting groups so you can talk to the school and each other. Opportunities are available for families to learn and grow together.

Swift and easy access to specialist support services

Access to a range of health and social care services that children, young people and adults need to access at different times in their lives which support both their general wellbeing and their ability to learn is available.

Schools work together with other schools in the area along with a wide range of local providers including statutory, community, voluntary organisations and local businesses.

The future

Community needs are constantly changing, if you have any ideas how your school could be offering more extended opportunities to meet the needs and aspirations of children and young people, their families and the wider community, it is vital for you to have YOUR say…
